A NASA study

suggest the conventional baffle cowl is only 50% efficient at recovering ram air pressure.
I tried to baffle ours tightly with that thick RTV baffle material, and from the looks of the wear patterns, it seems tight. (I did the wrap around the front too, to keep air from spilling back out the front.) But I must be losing some air at the inlets, since they don't couple to the upper cowl directly, as is done with an enclosed plenum.
That's why I'm looking for someone who has tried it both ways and can report and night/day difference in CHT's on the Glasair. (II)
OTOH, I guess it can't hurt to build an enclosed plenum. Can't hurt anything, can only make it better.

I made a enclosed plenum around my engine and lost about 25 degrees of CHT
temps... The temps dropped from 375 average to 350 average... Those are
good numbers... Picture attached...

I have a Gl2SFT with a 200 HP Lycoming and my cylinder head temperatures are 290 degrees during the winter months and 325 degrees during the summer months. My oil temperature during the winter months are around 190 degrees and during the summer months range around 210 degrees. I have ramp cooling with the cowling inlet top air foiled. And I use silicone to seal the engine. The front baffle is shaped to meet the spinner fairing and I cut out a tire inner tube to form a half moon shaped bulb like seal. I keep my engine temperature down by climbing out at no less than 140 mph.
