Peter,

Sent you an e mail with weight and dimensions of engine and crate. Feel free to get an estimate from a Canadian hauler but I don't think $500 would get a toaster oven from here to there. I will start crating it tomorrow and will throw in the Spark plugs at no extra cost.

Peter,
We're shipping engines all the time.
It's running about $800-$1600 to ship an engine using the proper class (150)
A crated M14 is a 5'X5'x5' box at ~850#.
Overland trucking costs have almost doubled in the last 8 months.
If it's a core engine you can save some money by dropping the class to
85 (engine parts)

Hi Milt,

One really wonders what is going on ! ? This guy is blaming you ????? He
says that he won this auction before ?? Unreal that is for sure.

Anyway, I could finally talk to my partner Philip early this morning.
He seems as happy as I am Surprised)
There was only one thing that made me surprised. I told him that you are
getting a quote for the shipping, so that we know the total amount, and
he goes : that will be something between 250 and 500 bucks ! I was very
surprised, but he said that it would come by truck, and that was what he
paid before. ( That was before we even knew each other )
Now I am a bit confused. What we like in regard of shipping, just
regular shipping, nothing expedited or express or anything like
that........
The engine would be in a wooden box right ?
All I ever did was shipping an engine from here to Virginia. An 0-320 in
a wooden box. With brokerage fees and all it came below 500 dollars.
Now of course there is a big margin between 500 and 2000 bucks Surprised(
Anyway I am looking forward to find out, how much the quote is you will
be getting.

Have a nice day !
Peter

Hi Milt,
Thank you for your mails. I just got back in and was going true all the
mail.
I do not think that you are trying something funny ! I am just surprised
how expensive the shipping may be. But you where up front about it in
your ebay description.
I have a meeting tomorrow with my partner ! I could not arrange it
earlier, but that is o.k. I will go to the company that shipped my 0-320
to the States, that I will have enough information's on the shipping,
and we could arrange all tomorrow.
Please stick with your plans to start crating.
I also like to thank you for drawing in the spark plugs. It is really
appreciated.

I got some other emails in regard to the shipping cost, it is not clear
who was it that send it and so on. It may be the case, that your
shipping company is more expensive than others. One Gentleman suggested
to ship it as aircraft engine parts, not as an engine, he gave me the
shipping code for it, he stated that it may be cheaper that way.

Anyhow I am confident that all will go well and as planed. I can not see
any further problems. I will get back to you, tomorrow evening, and let
you know, if there is any other question, and how our meeting went. Our
meeting starts at 5:00Pm

I like the suggestion you made in regards to the checks, the amounts and
so on. I will print it all out, so my partner can see first hand, and
after he digested the shipping cost, all will be o.k.
We will send you the checks by courier. Yes, you sending the log by mail
is also a good idea.

For now that is it, I think all is clear, by tomorrow we should know if
we are hiring a company from our end, for the shipping job.

I hope that I did not forget something. If there is something important
from your end, you got my home phone and my cell, just in case.

Regards,
Peter

Peter,
Doug Sapp here. One thing to remember about freight classes. While it's true the lower the rate the lower the cost, be aware that the lower the class the lower the liability the truck co has. The ate for scrap engine parts will most likely be below 80, but they will pay you for damage based on scrap engine parts. So while it might be nice to get away cheap, if something happens, you'll have to take it on the chin. My advice is to step up and pay the correct rate, AND make sure you show the stated value. Without "stated value" you will be in a pissing contest with the truckers insurance carriers over the value. And trust me, stuff happens, my last M14 came in laying on its side!!!

One last caution: Make sure you get a certified scale weight from the carrier who picks up the crate. I neglected to do this and now I have the delivering carrier saying that a Housai engine in the crate weighs over 1000 pounds, and they want to bill me for the difference of the 600 lbs which the first carrier said it weighed. Another pissing match!

Good luck,
