To all,

I tell you what, guys like Dennis, Steve, George, Doug, etc. are an invaluable asset to us. I could NOT have installed my M14 into my Moose without them.

If you have not contributed to Matronics then you need too.

Eddie

Just a word of caution. If the original thread on mount for the tach generator is still there, no problem. It's easy to install. If the outer plate had been removed, be very cautious. If you remove the wrong plate at that tach gen attachment point, you can disturb the air start distributor timing which is one of the worst things to get working again on the entire aircraft. Ask me how I learned all about THAT. That's the big green thing with all those metal lines attached in the photo. Just looking at that monster makes me cringe.

Second, the tach generator cannon plug. Most problems with incorrect reading tach's is because of a broken wire in this plug. They break VERY easily. The wire is brittle and the solder flux the Russians use corrodes much easier than does our stuff.

Lastly, these three wires in the tach gen plug are shielded. If the shield wire to this plug breaks, or if the shield is not connected properly, the noise from the tach generator can become so extreme that it will actually damage a stock Russian radio. Hard to believe, but I saw it happen with my own eyes. I also fixed the radio. The first stage broad band amplifier transistor shorted base to collector. Now THAT is serious noise!

Just thought I would pass along lessons regarding this little device that I had to learn about the hard way.

Have fun.... The Doug I mentioned was Doug Sapp of Omak, Wa. The other Doug is Doug Franklin who used to work for Murphy Aircraft and has installed about 15 M14s in various aircraft.

Doug Sapp has a great air system if you have not already gone down that road.
