Thanks guys. Steve, how do I tell if it's "the generator that has failed and not the control
box/wiring?"  I've opened up the regulator and all the wires looked good. Unfortunatley, I'm a shade tree mechanic and everyone around here that I ask about it looks at the engine and says they don't know anything about it.  I'm not even sure how to test it other than my generator trouble light used to come on at low power settings, and now it doesn't come on at all and my batteries are not getting a charge.
I would rather have it rebuilt than put another in. I'll look up your reference.
Rick, I don't know to make a drive adapter. But I can ask around.
Thanks

Mark, How is it driven? You might be able to find a 24 volt alternator and
make a drive adapter for it. It you wanted to go to 12 volts there are a
number of small tractor dynamos (permanent magnet alternators) available
from John Deere and others. Again, a drive adapter would be required but
once done you'd have a ready source of replacement parts without the high
ticket price.

The LOM generator is a simple object, and is no different in design from an
y
other generator. - Any aircraft electrical specialist should be able to hel
p
you, or an automotive shop with an interest in the vintage market. A quick
Google search for =B3generator repair=B2 found 5 in the city where I live.

For an aircraft generator overhaul shop, I would start here:

If they won=B9t look at yours, they can probably suggest someone who will.

Are you certain it is the generator that has failed and not the control
box/wiring?

Is the generator properly polarized? You'll have to find an old time mechanic or instructions on the web. I'd try that first if it is indeed a generator. As I recall you short between Field and positive battery terminal, but it's been years since I had to do this on a VW generator. Well, it turns out my memory is pretty good. Here's a You Tube video.
