Hi All

  

 Started to mount the front landing gear to-day but  it seems to result in a very high "nose up" attitude. Is there a spec for the  angle that the fuselage should be while on the gear?

 Is that with or without the engine?  The gear will compress some when the engine is mounted but I have noticed that several of the TR-4's seem to have a slight nose high attitude.  Check out the various completions photos on my site along with some photos of the planes before and after engine mount.

Rich is a fan of the nose high, tail low look.  Kind of like how a Mooney sits.



I adjusted both my main gear and nose gear to provide a more level stance but keep the prop clearance the same.

If you can get the plane to sit level when fitted with the engine and loaded with half fuel and yourself,  it would be fine.  If it sits nose high in that configuration I would try and correct it.  Reason is, the nose wheel will touch down sooner and the braking will be longer and less effective in the roll-out due to some lift from the wing's angle of attack.  Also, rotation can occur too soon for the same reason. 



My kit was supplied with a GROVE landing gear by request and the gear makes the plane sit higher off the ground than a typical TR-4.  I attached the nose gear higher to get a level stance with simulated engine weight.  When fully loaded, it will sit a bit nose low which is what I prefer.

I am so embarrassed, I never took into account the fact that the nose gear  

will compress under load. So guess I will have to wait and see what it looks  

like when I have got the motor on.

 If you wanted to check it out now you could hang  some sand bags, anvils, boat anchors, etc. that equal the weight of the engine  you are going to use. That will let you see where you are going to end up.
