I do not agree with Jerry. My Azuzu drum brakes (using Sonex heavy wall machined drum) do provide predictable braking with fade. They will not save my but in a situation like a runway incursion where hard braking is required to prevent disaster.  As for improving existing mechanical brakes. The early primitive automobiles went through a phase where increased mechanical leverage was attempted via longer actuating arms.....all to no avail as engine horse power was increasing along with better road surfaces and increased speed capabilities.
