I also have the Prince P-Tip prop 62 x 78. I consider it a cruise prop and only get 4600 RPM on initial takeoff roll. But it is fast and smooth...

I have 72" X 81" P-Tip.  Got it eight years ago. Much too big and too much bite.  Even with the nose wheel pant removed, on a rough field I have to be carefull or the prop will hit the tire. Prince has offered to re-cut it for me but I don't want to be without the plane for that long.

If my airport was higher than 140' or if I flew out of grass strips, I might reduce the pitch.  However, I get good performance from it.  I typically do not use full power on take-off. The torque makes my plane squirelly. When I'm off I open the throttle until I'm 300' or so up.  I lower the nose and pick up speed to 100 or 110 and maintain rpm at 4800.  When alone in the winter I am then climbing out at 1,200'.  Summer when it is hottet I get 1,000 fpm.

I have decreed  that max continous cruise power for my plane is 4,850 rpm at which point I am light sport legal - 135 mph. For short periods of time, wink -wink, the engine will turn up to 5,500 rpm at which time I am getting 150, true.
The reason for the 4,850 rpm limitation is that when I built my plane I reduced the size of the intake cowls by 60% and fared the opening into the fuselage. It makes the plane slippery-er  ( If there is such a word. ) but has the potential of leading to over-heating.  (( Which I have never experienced.))  Most of my flying is local and I am in no hurry so I dink around at 4,700 rpm at 130 while burning a little less than 4 gal/hour.

Love the P tip.
