Hi all,

Are the Empennages for the -6, -7 & -8 totally identical and are
therefore interchangeable from one model to the other??? Just
wondering..., so anyone know for sure?

Thank you, Konrad

The -7 and -8 have the same Empennage, but the -6 has a different one. The -4 and -6 Empennages are much smaller than on the -7 and -8. To my eye, the 4/6 fin-rudder is a little too small, and the 7/8 fin-rudder is a little too big. That being said, with the IO-390 on the -8, I'm often wishing I had more rudder authority during landing. So, it may be visually too big on the 7/8 already, but it could be bigger! Smile

I can tell you that I have the 7's VS and rudder on my 6 and I think the HS and elevators are also from the 7's configuration.  I started my build in 1999 when the 6 was beginning to be phased out.  I ordered the QB kit and the empanage was not the original 6's configuration, both the rudder and the elevators are counter balanced and the VS and rudder are much larger.  I am thankful for the larger set.

Some of you might remember when a few years ago I retro fit a RV-8 emp
to my RV-6. Was pretty simple to do just had to back mark new verticle
spar to
match the hole in fuselage bulkhead. Also had to redo the tail fairing
to make it fit.

Hi all,
Aren't the various fuselage width's at the horizontal stabilizer area-, as well as the attach points themselves for the horizontal stab different between the -6, -7, -8?

There is someone marketing a finished empennage on Barnstormers, saying "...it can be used on either the 6, 7, 8... and it made no sense to me / I was not sure on that!
Here is what he said to me in an email: "The empennage can be used on any of Van's aircraft models of 6, 7, or 8 : or 6a,7a or 8a. Charlie" Is he correct in that statement?

On the other hand, I do have a "spare" built / late version -6 Empennage (with tall, counterbalanced rudder), so I wondered if it would work for the -7 or -8 guys as well???
Anyone need one, either with or without a nearly virgin Wing kit of the pre-drilled kind, maybe even match drilled? The spars are assembled already!
Cheers, Konrad

Need to make correction, I only retro the rudder and vertical stab, not
horizontal.
