Hello OC,
my approach speed is 65 knots indicated and most of my landings are with the engine at idle.
Regarding the short fields it may help that most of the German fields have runways about 600m long. We are used to it.. Also i do a lot of glider flying which also may help hit the point.
Regards,
Ralf

Hello Ralf, Thanks for your input. You wrote:
1) "i am flying the KIS Taildragger and always try to land in a 3-point
attitude"
I'd say that is also just about the right amount of nose up attitude for
main landing gear touchdown for a tricycle landing gear version of this
plane.
2) "So i come down with a high aoa and slow."
What are you using for an approach indicated airspeed (knots - mph)? What
are you using for engine RPM during the flare? I think where people get into
trouble when flaring the KIS TR-1 for landing is when they create a nose
high attitude going for a squeaker or short field touch down with the engine
at idle RPM. That combination can bite.
3) "......most of the time i need only half of the runway which is 600
meters long."
600 meters is 1,968 feet. Half of that is 984 feet. I think that I could
touch down well past the approach end of a hard surface runway and get my
plane stopped in 1,000 feet, but there is no way that I would want to put my
brakes and tires through that kind of abuse on a routine basis. Also I would
not attempt a landing on a hard surface ruway that was only 1,000 feet long
from beginning to end -- the risk of not touching down precisely at the
beginning of the runway would be too great.

PS: I have about 325 hours on my KIS TR-1 now and average about 5 landings
per hour. That is about 1,700 landings (most of my flights have been local
with .8 to 1.0 hours per flight. I expect that I could go out right now, fly
5 practice landings in a Cessna 172 (an airplane that I have not flown since
11 July 2002) and after those 5 practice landings be making better landings
in the Cessna than I can make consistently in my KIS TR-1.

gather and understand knowledge."
