The type I use is the standard black ones like these:

For length you have to measure your own desired door opening and closing situation. Some Cruiser builders favored the 35 PSI type and used two per door.

My air struts for the Cruiser doors got lost in the move to Florida. I know that this was discussed before but I must confess to my ignorance of how to dig up past posts. Whats a good place to buy them and
what type and size should I get?

McMaster Carr has a good selection. If you get a strut with too high a force it will distort the door when closed. I'd look for one about 18" long and about 30 pounds of force. I'd buy one and mess with it and see if the force and length workout.

Hi Al
When building my Cruiser I used the supplied struts mounted at the rear of the door rather than the front as called for. I did not want them in my field of view when flying. After having the doors blow closed a few times I replaced them with 60 pound units and have not a blow down in 8 years.

I put mine at the rear, and am happy with the location. 60# if I recall correctly.

Now that the hinge question has been resolved, I would like to do the same with the air struts. I reinforced the front part of the door thinking that was where I would place the strut but now am questioning that placement
as possibly being an intrusion for the pilot and copilot. Have people found that a rear placement of the struts is
a better way to go?
Also, using only one strut per door, what would be the recommended pressure rating for a Cruiser door.
I'm guessing about 40 lbs.
