Mark

Assumming you have the conventional Azusa 5" Tri-Star wheels and 4-1/2"band brake, they are available from:
Aircraft Spruce http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/lgpages/azusaBandBrakes.php
Leading Edge Airfoils http://onlinecatalog.leadingedgeairfoils.com/WebProject.asp?BookCode=wag09flx&from=2

Best regards,

Ronko

You might try Norther tool.  I have seen in their go-cart parts area band brakes that look like ours, only I have not measured the exact diameter to be sure they match what those of us that have early kits have.

Hi Mark,
All you need to do is to take your worn bands to you brake bonding shop and they will bond new linings on to them for you. Damn side cheaper than buying new bands.

Mark, if you can source a supplier that sells the band brakes with a slightly larger diameter than those sold at Aircraft Spruce, it would be good.  The original Aero Designs band brakes were slightly larger and the tabs were slightly longer than found available today.  The result is a less than ideal fit.  I've looked many places but never found an ideal source for the band brakes (even though I still like using band brakes for the 582).

Best,

Mike,
I have a pair of original bands in very good condition, the friction material is worn out so will need rebonding with new linings.

Keith,  If you no longer need them, I'd be very happy to pay you for the original bands.  I don't have my original bands (wish I did) and would be happy to see about having the bands re-lined.

Best,

Mike

You might try this site

http://www.azusaeng.com/brakes/bandbrk.html

I found that if I paid close attention to the alignment of the cable attaching to the band brake and made sure that it pulled straight and not slightly to eithor side that it eliminated the squeaking, grabbiness and chatter. I also used disk break quiet spray on the inside of the drum. My brakes are smooth and quiet and hold the plane at full power. But, I do have fade after a good hard stop, so I use them sparingly.

Mike,
Sorry, I've still got the spinner backplate, I was trying to get a better price on shipping it, then went away for a holiday and it slipped my mind to follow up on my return, I will see what I can do to send them all together which will make it more economical.
I will get back to you with price and shipping.

Regards
Keith
