Hi all

Is anyone with a Series 1 Pulsar 582 (wood Spar) operating with the fuel tanks in the wings (like the XP) and making the fuel tank that is ahead of the instrument panel redundant ??

If so, any problems ??

If NOT recommended, why ??

Thank you

Hi Alan

Good question .

If you get some news please pass it my way. I operate a 1991 Pulsar 1 .

The plan is to upgrade it with electric IVO prop and reduced cooling drag .

Guys, this is just not a safe option. The blue foam ribs will melt when exposed to gas fumes. The wood spar cap is put together with structural adhesive that will also react poorly to gas fumes. Any leak or spill will seriously damage the wing to the point of failure.

The composite spar was made with high temp oven cured epoxy and Klegecell ribs that resist fuel.

It is my understanding that the early Pulsars had blue
foam ribs. They will desolve from gas fumes so putting
fuel in the wings is not a good idea unless you rebuild
the wings and replace the blue ribs with the brown ones.
