Hi all again

Have a person that has purchased a second hand Pulsar Series 1, 582 trigear. He wants to know if anyone has converted the flap control from hand operated to ELECTRIC flap.

Any photo, diagram and material used would be very useful.

Thanks again

Hi Alan,
I have electric flaps on my Pulsar III. I am away from the plane now, but I can oblige with the build manual instructions, if OK.
Please advise.

I converted to electric flaps with a linear actuator. Shortened the flap handle and put it between the seats. Actuator behind seats pules flap handle with a cable.
I'm in Ohio on a trip for September and plane is in TX to no pictures now.
God Bless
Bob Heiser

Alan,

I built mine with electric flaps. Shortened the flap handle and installed it inside the centre console. It is operated by a linear actuator behind the seat, and a cable around a pulley mounted on the end of the flap handle. This arrangement sounds very similar to Bob Heiser. The pulley gives a 2:1 mechanical advantage, reducing the pull needed by the actuator.

I can sent some photos and a description, but can't include attachments on this list. If you email me privately I can respond.

Brian

BRIAN AND ALL, I ALSO HAVE ELECTRIC FLAPS BUT I DID IT BACK IN THE DAYS
(1993) BEFORE THERE WAS A PULSAR GROUP, WHEN YOU HAD TO INVENT SOMETHING. I
WAS IN THE GARAGE LOOKING AT MY GARAGE DOOR OPENER AND DECIDED THAT WAS HOW
I COULD MAKE IT WORK, SO I TOOK A 12 VOLT DRILL AND CUT OFF THE BATTERY AND
WIRED IT INTO A SWITCH ON MY STICK AND USED LIMIT SWITCHES AND A PIECE OF
ALL THREAD AND LIKE YOU SHORTENED UP THE HANDLE SO IT WOULD FIT UNDER THE
CENTER CONSOLE. 14 YEARS AND 1,200 HOURS AND AT LEAST A THOUSAND LANDINGS
AND STILL WORKS GREAT. THE DRILL MOTOR IS MOUNTED BEHIND THE SEAT. I HAD
TO MAKE A MOUNT FOR THE MOTOR AND INSTALL A BEARING THAT WOULD TAKE THE LOAD
OF THE FLAPS SO WITH A LITTLE TINKERING I'VE NEVER HAD TO FOOL WITH IT. I
THINK THAT GRAND TOTAL OF MONEY SPENT ON MATERIALS...$100? JERRY

ALAN,

I BUILT MINE WITH ELECTRIC FLAPS. SHORTENED THE FLAP HANDLE AND INSTALLED IT
INSIDE THE CENTRE CONSOLE. IT IS OPERATED BY A LINEAR ACTUATOR BEHIND THE
SEAT, AND A CABLE AROUND A PULLEY MOUNTED ON THE END OF THE FLAP HANDLE.
THIS ARRANGEMENT SOUNDS VERY SIMILAR TO BOB HEISER. THE PULLEY GIVES A 2:1
MECHANICAL ADVANTAGE, REDUCING THE PULL NEEDED BY THE ACTUATOR.

I CAN SENT SOME PHOTOS AND A DESCRIPTION, BUT CAN'T INCLUDE ATTACHMENTS ON
THIS LIST. IF YOU EMAIL ME PRIVATELY I CAN RESPOND.

BRIAN

Alan - I have a Pulsar XP (similar cabin dimension specs to Rotax 582 powered Pulsar Series I). I found a way to very simply retrofit to electric flaps using Fergelli 2 In. linear actuator. The actuator mounts in control stick tunnel, no intermediate cables or pulleys and no need to tear up seat bottom during retrofit process. I can provide pictures and my telephone number for assistance.

Dave
I am currently using a linear actuator but it is large heavy and cumbersome, do you have the model number and lb force rating, is the two inch stroke the best fit.I have enclosed a picture of miy fitting.
