Hi folks, 2nd time in two years and my right fuel tank seal has fractured. The leak which is a few drops of fuel going aft on the bottom of the wing come from forward face of the main spar where the spar exits the body of the wing (the aft side of fuel tank). The last time I had to mix up the sealant, put a blob onto the area of leakage and create a vacuum in the tank (about 1 to 2 lbs) in order to draw the sealant in. Bob Hartunian sent me same Jeff coat 9700 that was used up. Jeff coat is no longer listed in Spruce catalog($99/gallon minimum quantity) but they are showing a product called AC-TECH, AC-236 and AC-240 Class B Fuel Tank and Fuselage Sealant. Anyone had any experience with this product?

Thanks

That leaking area is where the aluminum flange for the fasteners is glued to the spar. It is a weak spot in this design for sealing because the aluminum does not bond well to anything. The wing is also quite flexible in that corner and tends to work things loose. Most likely for a more permanent seal you will have to open up the tank end plate and seal it from the inside. Check first if it might be coming from a screw, that is easier to fix from the outside. A flexible sealant is best in that area, that is what AC Spruce is offering, the two-component stuff that stays rubbery.
