Hi All. #244 is all finished and the final inspection went OK.

Only one small issue. The original application to transport Canada (MD-RA) was submitted for 3500 pounds gross.
Since 244 is on amphib. floats that does not leave a great deal of payload as she is a good 2611 pounds empty.
We can apply for an increase to the gross weight after 25 hours of the fly off time but it would be nice to have some weights from the rest of you to give to Transport as proof of the higher gross weight.
She has the Murphy extended wingtips which gives her at least a 5% increase according to Murphy. That should be good to 3675 gross.

In doing the wing loading calculations we should be able to get up to 3775 and still be under the wing loading for high performance specs.

Anybody have a Moose in Canada or Alaska that has been registered with more than 3500 pounds gross?

I know the plane can probably fly just fine at 4000 pounds but we need to know from the rest of you what has been done so we can follow the same path.

Thanks.
Peter

Hello Peter and a hearty congratulations!

Bob Patterson (bobp(at)prosumers.ca I believe) can advise you re gross weight.

I do know of at least two folks that have flown at over 4,000 with no problem (albeit at sea level).

Contact me of list and I'll give you at least one of their email addresses.

We have flown our moose at 4000 pounds on Montana 3500 floats at sea level. It takes between 18 and 20 seconds for takeoff. At lighter weights it's 15 seconds. As usual is quite a trade-off between payload and fuel. Our empty weight is 2990, about 200 pounds heavier than I had hoped, but with six seats we have 150 pounds of seats in the airplane, so just by taking out seats we can save weight.

Congratulations! I was wondering if they were PK floats and if they are, do you have any information on the installation which I could use?

Thanks,

The floats are Montana's.
What do you want to know about mounting floats on the Moose?
