Good afternoon Pulsar friends. This week I bought a 912 Pulsar from an old friend and flew it home. What a great machine, the 912 is definitely a great engine for the Pulsar. Love the plane, the builder did an outstanding job and I did the first flights on this aircraft, it's like a small family.
Now some of you may be wondering, what in the world is going on with Greg, he flies a Jabiru powered Pulsar. Well, When I built my Pulsar, the only power available was the 582. After 780 exciting hours of flying I decided I needed a four stroke engine, but the 912 was not an option for the many reasons cited on this forum. The Jabiru was the only engine that met the weight limit requirements and could fit in the cowling.
Since that point in time I have put 1500 hours on my aircraft, and still fly it, but I have always wanted a 912 plane, so now I have two Pulsars. Oh well, maybe one will always have gas in it when I want to smash some bugs.
So now, I need some help. On the way home, the radio developed a noise, static with a faint high pitch tone. Entering the air space at home required several calls and repeats with the tower to get in. On the ground, noise is gone until engine is started. I suspect something to do with the charging circuit but it is showing 14 volts. With master on, all gyros running, and engine off, radio is clear, so must be in the engine. The noise does not increase with throttle setting. I tried my handheld radio and got the same results, so the noise is not coming through the electrical system as the handheld runs on it's own batteries.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
One last thing, no, I am not starting a used Pulsar lot, so please do not contact me with the deal of the century. Donna has been very patient with this old guy but after 43 years I do not want to push it too far. I have been blessed in so many ways.

Radio noise is OFTEN due to bad ground somewhere. Use a fairly heavy clip lead and start grounding things, one at a time. Also look for broken lead on any capacitors.
Good luck because chasing noise sometimes takes awhile.

You disgust me. Pittlling information included too. Whom did you buy a Pulsar from? Does Donna know you bought a new (lamp)? Will you recover soon? Am I in your Will? Heck someone has to fly the missing man formation,.
You better answer your phone cause I'm getting two beers to start. Cripes, it took a good prodding from me to get you back in the air. Darn, now Donna is going to blame me for this.

Bet we can put pontoons on it Greg. Taxi into the canal and tie it up. Have Donna bring the RV. Oh, hell, now I'm in trouble too. I'm gonna get even.

Sounds like charging system. Disconnect the wires at the coils and start the engine to prove it. Swap the voltage regulator. You say the level does not change with engine speed - How about the tone? My memory says we had 2 capacitors across 12v. A large one in thousand of uf and small one like .01 uf - one of those could be bad or disconnected.
