I am selling my IAR823. It is a Romanian airforce trainer. 4 place, stick controls, and it's aerobatic. 160 hrs on lycoming IO540.

Maybe some listers would like to hear the story of how the IAR's got
here. It is a tale of happenstance and luck.
I remember my first view of the IAR 823. I was in Romania meeting
with Aerostar about further contracts for Yak52TW and Motorstar about M14P
engines. My friends in Motorstar said there may be some Lycoming engines
available for sale soon and was I interested. I said yes, and we drove 2
hrs. to Focsani air base.
There we saw in the distance a field of IAR823 aircraft and I was
told they were to be scrapped and perhaps we could buy engines. We were not
allowed on the base to see them close up. I asked if I could buy the
airplanes as is. After some months of discussions, I contracted for 38
aircraft. I did not have the money so I presold some of the aircraft to get
the funds for the contract.
I became worried that after paying for them, some Romanian Official
would stop the deal, so the day I paid contract, I had 22 containers
arranged and 3 crews to make the special shipping frames, disassemble and
pack them. They were all disassembled, packed 2 to a container gone within a
week. They also had to remove the military equipment so we could import
them as "Civil" aircraft.
34 were imported to the U.S. and 4 went to Hungary. The last day, my
guys called and said there were some spares for sale, so I bought them sight
unseen and two more containers were loaded with the spares.
There were some others that came from the Romanian Air clubs
imported as well. I also later bought the last 6 aircraft from the Romanian
Air clubs as well.

Hi George,
Very interesting story. How does it fly in formation when compair with Yak/Nanchang?
What is its real world cruise speed and fuel burn?
