Hi Pieters,

In drawing 1, the instrument boards and cowl supports are shown as being wider than the fuselage. Is this correct? If there is a reason for this, what am I missing?

I am well under way with the fuselage and offer a couple of insights/ suggestions for those about to start. (For many this will be ďSuck eggs, grandma!Ē)

Donít fit the ply sides to the fuselage or the firewall until you fit the seats and the controls. Too difficult to get at otherwise. Do, however, place the fuselage sides onto the ply before joining the sides and mark out the edges. This will make it much easier to cut and fit later (I didnít do this, unfortunately).

To get a nice curve for the instrument boards, turtle back cowl supports, get a piece of very fine chain (cheap jewellery stuff). Make sure the top of the ply is horizontal, mark out the two edge points and then hang the chain between the points with the bottom of the chain passing through the centre point at the right distance/depth. Use some spray varnish and give the chain a gentle squirt. Youíll get a perfect curve marked out. Try it out on some scrap first. To start with I didnít allow for any cut out. (Iím pretty sure we thanks the Romans for this trick).

Kind regards from Ďway down underí,

David Boarder (Tasmania)

The boards rest on the longerons. Don't forget there's a 1/8" sheet of plywood on each side.
