Gentlemen,

I have a question concerning the above SI. On page 3 under section 3) we are instructed to “Disconnect negative terminal of aircraft battery”. Then in section 3.1.1) we are instructed to turn the engine in the normal direction until the “oil pressure rises on the oil pressure gauge”. Since the oil pressure gauge is electrical (connected to the oil pressure sensor by an electrical “wire”) how can the gauge measure or indicate anything if it it not connected electrically (i.e. no battery????)?

Hi Hugh,
You don't need to disconnect the battery. Just make sure the key or ignition switches are off. Disconnection of the battery is. CYA issue with Rotax. When I purge an engine I usually see 50-55 psi on the gauge with just St the power on.

Roger, Thanks, but am I correct in stating that if there is no battery connected to the electrical system there will be no pressure indication on the gauge when hand rotating the engine? Hugh

My Rotax 912 UL. has the standard oil pressure sensor wired to a VDO steam gauge. Don't I need the battery connected for the gauge to indicate oil pressure when purging the system? If not please explain why.
