Can't resist this discussion. Assume the Sukhoi AB Method. That is place A lever to the firewall, then take the other lever, place it next to the first one and leave it Be. The result is full throttle and flat pitch.

In this condition, a constant-speed counter-weighted prop acts like a fixed pitch prop, excepting the condition of a "runaway" prop on big radials where the governor has failed. I have experienced interesting results with both Huosai and B530-TA props.
Fiddling with the Huosai prop for a grudge race, allowed 2600 RPM which yielded 170 KIAS. So what if I ended up selling the engine for parts on eBay, I wanted an M-14P anyway. On the M-14P, with the Paddle Blade set a little finer than recommended, I lost some range of governor control but was able to make some of the best landings in my life by pushing up the prop just before touchdown and feeling that big speed brake set the CJ down with no sensation of touchdown.
So what worked best? Turned out for me that staying within "book" settings yielded the best, consistent result. Use any of the accepted methods for measurement but do it as accurately as you can.
