That's the right way to "fix" it.

I pull the tail spring after undoing the bolt to check the slop in the off times poorly built mount.

If the hole is wonky, drill to 3/8" OD and insert a steel tube with a 3/8 by 5/16" ID and Redux in. Assemble, and allow to cure.

Can’t you remove the arm, 1 bolt, clean the redux off, prep the tail wheel bar area for rebonding and refit then there is no real repair as your installing it again as per the manual.

What I think when doing maintenance is: If the spring came loose at the tailpost, find out why. Otherwise it is just a patch. Which may be OK... For a while.

The book tailpost pyramid is subject to flex in ground loops.

I build mine from wall to wall. Never had a spring mount failure but after a spring came loose, inspection revealed a wonky hole.

I had the same problem, the tail wheel spring became loose where it passes through the sternpost. I removed it, cleaned off the old redux and re-bonded it as per the manual. It's OK at the moment, but I would like a fix that is permanent as I think it will become loose again in time.

I'm not convinced that bonding the tailspring to the sternpost is the strongest fixing method. I thought about developing a mod using two small 4130 steel plates that would bolt through the sternpost sandwiching it, with an appropriate 'guide' welded on to one of the plates to clamp the spring. The tail loads and vibration would then be transmitted to the sternpost over a greater area through the steel plates and sternpost.

Any thoughts anyone?

Thanks for that Dave. I agree, and did the same re-bonding to mine about 5 years ago which touch wood has held out fine with no problems since. I think the Redux/ Flox method is a very good fix - but a good mod such as your proposal would be even better....!
Cheers, Jon
