John, from northern california.  FS ll,503
Yes, several upgrades when building the 2-place version, which probably is shown on your plans. My plans also call for these upgrades when a 503 is being used.
7 wing ribs, not 5
wing has reinforced drag strut, (internal sleeve full length) with 2 drag strut braces
ailerons are shorter on 2 place version
Lift strut internal tube is full length
Landing gear legs are larger diameter, the sockets in the fuselage may have a  reducing bushing that would need to be taken out.
I received a directive from Kolb some time ago that the second seat bottom horizontal tube was showing weld breakage due to flexing (upon landing?) and they
wanted that tube to be cut, with a sliding sleeve to bridge a small gap in that tube.
I incorporated a second set of cable pulleys on this sleeve tube to guide the elevator and rudder cables where they enter the tail boom tube.
I would verify exactly which tube is to be cut with Kolb.
I sure enjoy the conversations on this list. Hope to meet you guys in person one day. My notes on the two place version should be verified with plans from Kolb.

Richard:

My frame/cage is very close to your first unmodded picture

with the gas tank platform in back. Without a doubt there is

a location for a passenger. Could the factory option for 2nd seat

be the seven rib wing instead of the five?

Thanks for the very nice pictures & advice.

Our fly-in is now complete. My mission of scattering my wife's ashes went

off without a hitch.

Its been really dry here and the extra airplane traffic did not help the

condition of the runway. I secured a 2x6 to the rear of my quad trailer to

set the tail wheels of the Kolbs in to pull them to the top of the hill so

that we weren't covering every thing in clouds of dust. The Carbon cub and

highlander we just tied to the tail wheel and pulled them to the top.

I have no idea of how many people were here, but I was kept hopping most of

the time. Mike Hale from Seattle came down with his firestar and his lovely

wife to fly with us. He was using a short wind screen which did little to

help his speed or keep the wind out of his face. Its quite nice if you are

not in a hurry, but I found that the wind always hit me in the wrong place

and made my nose run. Snot streaks on my glasses was not my idea of a good

time. We braced his screen so that it didn't keep bending over on him.

I was able to do a couple of short videos of our two flights together.

Not a bunch to report, had a busy week at work. I pulled the wings off, that is

all.

The 5 rib wing was for the older models, carrying a passenger would require a 7

rib wing. If you have a 5 rib wing, and plan to carry any passengers, you have

some serious modifications in your future.
