I would contact the folks you purchased the plane from and see what they used etc.

I use A20s.  Love them.   I had a small issue before I switched to mono from stereo.
Good luck

Maybe my audio panel is the issue.

My 2 cents worth: I personally use my 20+ yr old David Clarks in my CJ6.Friends who ride in the back with their Bose, etc w/ noise cancelling tell me they develop an unpleasant throbbing.
While I use Bose & Lightspeed headsets for work (KingAirs), my DC's are ideal for the radial monsters.
Again, my 2 cents worth-

In the CJ cockpit with the M-14P engine, the Bose A20 works great.

Yes, I had a similar experience. After flying my 52 for many years, I could not get use to (or trust) the muted sound. Same as you, the A20 went to the rear cockpit and I returned to my DC.

I have the Lightspeed Zulu They do not work well in the Yak either.  I also fly a Breezy in the summer.  No ANR works well with it either due to noise.
The best Passsive NR headset I have found that is really comfortable is this:
Faro G2 - More comfortable than a David Clark, great PNR, Inexpensive.

I also notice that ANR do not work properly if the seal around the ear is perfect.
The Bose does not fit my big ears as well - thus Lightspeed.
And if I wear glasses with thicker temple pieces over the ear it disrupts the seal. I have an old pair of wire frame that do not disrupt the seal.

I have to say with the ANR switched on I couldnâ?Tt get on with them. They made the radial engine sound like it had dumped all the oil in it overboard. I kept having to pull the ear cup off my ear to make sure the engine was sounding right. In the end I have reverted back to my David Clarkâ?Ts which work well. The Bose have become a very expensive headset for my passengers. I made a complaint to Bose who responded back in saying that they had received a few similiar complaints. They admitted that there headsets would not suit every type of aircrafts particular engine harmonics. I really would like to try a set of Lightspeed Zulu headsets in the YAK. I think Lightspeed are offering your money back if you are happy. I will give them a try and report back. I would be interested if other Yak pilots have experienced the same when using a Bose A20. My advice would be to try a headset before you buy if you can. Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=487836#487836

I have chimed in on my affection for Lightspeed. And the inability to use ANR in the yak or on a breezy. Yes you fly on a breezy, not in it.
I use a nice inexpensive Passive noise reduction on the breezy, but I also use a Gibson and Barnes helmet w CEP in the yak. This works great.

I use CEP-USA in-ear plugs with custom ear molds inside an Alpha Eagle dome, although they are almost as effective in my HGU. I much prefer them to ANR in the CJ and Yak.
