OK guys and gals please give me your thoughts. I did my first compression check on my Yak since I bought it a little over a year ago. I did a cold compression check on the engine and it has not flown or been run up since about September last year.

I did the check twice to see the results first check was
#1 52/80
#2 16/80 blowing out breather
#3 78/80
#4 45/80 blowing out breather
#5 62/80
#6 55/80
#7 63/80
#8 75/80
#9 64/80

Second check
#1 55/80
#2 15/80
#3 79/80
#4 39/80
#5 66/80
#6 51/80
#7 70/80
#8 72/80
#9 74/80

I borescoped #2 and maybe a little scoring on the wall but it really is hard to see anything as I am not real good or have any experience with the borescope. I also borescoped #3 for comparison and it looked the same to me. I am thinking of putting it all together and fly it a little and redo the test with a warm engine.

Please give me your thoughts and suggestions.

Todd

Yes, most definitely must be warm, if you are not happy to fly it then at least give it a very good ground run, get it nice and hot. As an A+P and a Yak owner, I can tell you a cold engine will never give you a good reading, and do the blowbys as soon as you can after shut down, but be careful to take all the plug leads off, and be very careful of the hot engine because it can still fire.
Good luck
Anthony.
