This application specific crimp too for heat-shrink
butt-splices came in today. Thought I'd give you
a heads-up on the 'first smash'.

The RED aperture for the 22-16AWG splices
is ALMOST tight enough. About 1 in 4 splices
on 22AWG wire would fail an 8# pull test.
However, if one stripped the wire 1/2" and
doubled the stranding back, all test crimps
would pass.
The downside is that the shrink will not
close on small profile insulation . . . like
22759. Fully shrunk, there is no contact
of the insulation on the wire . . . no tell-tale
oozing of sealant from the ends telling us
that environmental protection has been
achieved.
The upside is that they do seal on the
22AWG with the larger, irradiated PVC
wire.
The rectangular crimp die does produce
less trauma to the insulation hence the
finished joint looks better that those
I've made in the past with 'non specific'
tools.
Watch this space. I'll see if I can do
a Shop Notes on this tool/materials
combination.
