Someone on VAF asked and made me curious.

Aircraft has:
    Electrosystems 60A alternator PN ALX8421RS
    Lamar voltage regulator B-00267-2
    Lamar overvoltage relay B-00339-1

Owner suspects regulator is bad.

I wonder:
What is this overvoltage relay and how is it wired.
Can a Ford regulator VR166 be used in combination with this overvoltage relay? (Lamar regulator B-00267-2 is only available used and is expensive.)

BTW I’m aware of Bob Nuckolls’ regulator swap test method. http://www.aeroelectric.com/Pictures/Regulators/Ford_Test_Reg.jpg

Thanks

Found this via google search:
https://www.bonanza.org/globalassets/aircraft/service-instructions/si-1062---electrical-power---installation-of-an-overvoltage-relay-for-the-60-amp-alternator-system.pdf
So evidently the relay opens the circuit to the voltage regulator if the electrical system voltage is too high.

Thanks Joe,

It seems to me:
The OP can use a "Ford" VR166 voltage regulator.
The overvoltage field interrupter relay is from a former time before overvoltage crowbars.
