Nick,
I am assembling the main wheels and see that we will be drilling the holes for the axels and the main legs .Would it be wise to not drill holes in the main legs at this time, so that when we have the wings , motor and complete plane assembled, we drill those holes and set tow in and wheel alignment at that time? To drill the holes at the top of the leg would be more difficult to get to under the seat. Tex

Tex and others,

During the builders assist we drill the Matco axel to the axel weldment and then the axel weldment to the gear leg. When it is time to set the toe-in we rotate the whole gear leg assembly and once that is set we drill through the gear socket (on the spar box) and through the gear leg (at the top of the leg). Drilling through the socket and gear leg really isn't the hard part of setting the toe-in process. Mike and I just set one this evening and drilling the bolt hole was the least of our worries!

Now, that is the order that we use for builders assist program. For us it's a little easier to do it that way because we send the fuselage off to paint at the end of the first week and the wheels seem to stay little more "in-line" while we roll the planes around the shop, onto the trailer and around the paint shop. Personally I don't see why you can't do it your way, we just do it a little differently. Nick, any other thoughts? As for getting under the seat, that shouldn't be an issue. One of the last things we install are the seats, well after final attachment of the wings, panel installation, setting the toe-in, etc.

I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please let us know.

Mark
