I sent out a question regarding changing the suspension on a 70
corvette. No responses.

Now, that means that (1) I'm the only one on this list, which means
I'll get off it; (2) no one knows of such an upgrade, so no one cared
to answer; (3) the upgrade is common knowledge and I shouldn't have
asked it; (4) it's propriotary information and not available to the
general public, so, no one responded; (5) the list is for purists only
and anyone modifying a corvette from stock is automatically shuned.

Pretty much nobody here... I have been monitoring it for months and only
seen a few messages.

I can't answer your question, sorry.

I don't think there's much activity, from what I've seen. Been on it for a
couple of years now, and can count the number of posts on both hands.

I have an '01, so I can't offer much help for you. However, I have a friend
who's doing a frame-off restoration of a '72, as I recall. If you want me
to forward to him your question, I'd be happy to. That's about all I can
offer. You can e-mail me off-list. Good luck.

Thanks, that would be great. I've got a 70 and was thinking about the
possiblity of updating the suspension to C5 or C6.

Sheesh... 350 HP rolling jukebox? What kind of power does that thing sport?
(the sound system I mean... its not just a "stero" eh?) Really, what is its
power consumption, rated audio power, and what kind of sound pressure level
can you generate?

Also, not shown is an 80gb Phatbox MP3 player which I added about a year later... Wink It intergrates right into the Sony C90 system and just looks like another CD changer with about 1500 CDs.

There's 900+ watts total power. That's roughly 75 amps at full tilt. It can go pretty loud... Best part though, is the clarity is perfect even at ear-bleed... With all this new electronic gear, it never really turns-off, so I have enough trickle current drain with all the various componets that I have to keep an external charger on the battery if I don't drive it about once a week.

The coolest part I think is that from the outside, no body can even really tell there is that much gear stashed inside. Well, unless I have the volume turned up... Smile

My home theater is 7 channels (at) 100W plus a 400W powered subwoofer...
powered at 110v, filling a 35x20 room. It can get pretty loud. 4ga wire in
a car, wow! Sine cars don't even connect the starter with that kind of
juice. 75 amps is probably more than your alternator can produce. Do you
get a voltage drop?

Well, the reality is that its pretty rare to be cranking it so loud to need all 900 watts. Smile The stock C6 alternator is good to about 110 amps. That added to the current reserve in the Optima Yellow Top plus the two 1 Farad caps the voltage levels hold up pretty well. Definitely can't run it for very long at high volumes without the engine running. At idle at night with the headlights on and high volume, you can see the headlights dim a little with the bass notes.

The other thing that is good about running really large voltage supply wires is that you minimize the chances of getting alternator whine in the system. Since I brought both + and ground back from the battery, and the whole system is isolated from the chassis of the car, there is zero noise from the alternator.
