Kevin,
As you know the 396 has two antennas, the GPS and the XM radio/nexrad radar (hockey puck). I have the GPS remote antenna underneath the cowling and the hockey puck on the Rocket's rollbar with velcro. I can remove it easy and take the 396 to other airplanes. The hockey puck is right in line with my big 2" scat NACA vent outlets and stays cool. I have never had degradation unless the antenna has slipped and isn't pointing straight up. The 396 has paid for itself this week with all the clag weather here in the SE...see ya!

Does anyine have any experience running the Garmin 396/496 XM antenna next to
the external GPS antenna. I'm planning on mounting them just underneth my glare
shield (glare shield is fiber glass). Rockets have pretty small glare shields
so this would put the antennas pretty close to each other. A second antenna
from a Garmin 250 would be very close as well.

Danny,
I have my G396 antenna and apollo GPS antenna next to each other underneath my
cowling of my HR2 mounted on the firewall, works great! The coolest part is
when people look for them...

Rob,
Do you get music from your 396? I just wonder if the engine heat affects
the quality of the music. My antenna is mounted in the rear window
(RV-6A). The quality of the music is not as good in the summer when it
gets hot.
