Does anyone know about a Corvair engine installation that is flying? I have a W-10 now needing an engine and am thinking about Corvair 100HP.

Thanks,

Kevin

Kevin, here are some sources for alternate engines, the Contact magazine is for alternate power at N56ML(at)hiwaay.net (N56ML(at)hiwaay.net) he has an article on corvair power in his KR2 which he flew 270 hrs last year, in issue 85, current issue of Contact Magazine. The one doing all the development on the Corvair is William Wynne at www.FlyCorvair.com   check out his website. Farmer John

Kevin,

Tom Cummings is on this list and he is planning a Corvair installation on a W10. Check this link: http://www.geocities.com/tomlc1/

Kevin,
My Tailwind is not built - just the ribs.
The Corvair engine was assembled and it test ran real good. That was three years ago.
It has been disassembled this month to have the crankshaft nitrided.
The Corvair rotates the opposite direction than certified engines so the verticle stabilzer needs to be offset in the opposite direction or the Corvair needs to be made to run in reverse.
The Corvair aircraft engine conversion is available from http://www/flycorvair.com
I remember a Mr. Southwick in Baton Rouge who was making a W-8 a few years ago and we used to chat on the phone once and a while and I was wondering how his project came along. I lost a lot of contact info in a computer hardware crash. The last I heard he was making the wings.
I think you and I emailed a long time ago.
