I tried that method Ron but the rubber on those Kingfox tires is so thin, when you tighten the strap it just folds over. I got frustrated and took it to the tire store. If you haven't seen Dave's video on how to seat a tire with starter fluid and a propane torch, check it out. Sounds crazy but it works!

Here is a trick I learned way back for getting tires to reseat the bead: With the tire on the wheel, take a 1” or 2” wide jacking tie down strap and wrap it around the tire down its center line. Then tighten the strap by jacking it until the bead is tight to the wheel. Then put air into it through the stem. You will hear the pop when it seats tight.
I use this method on golf cart wheel changes as well as my Model 2 Fox.

Yep. We are planted here for life, Patrick. Flying season is over for me. I had an issue this past season thhough, after mounting new Kingfox tires.,The airplane was frequently yawing to the left on touchdown resulting in a number of "excursions" into the grass (always to the left). Been thinking about why.

While swapping out the tires, I couldn't get the bead to reseat on the left one so took it to a tire store. I've since learned that they used "alot" of bead seating compound to get the job done. I've concluded that I didn't suddenly forget how to land a taildragger, rather that the main gear has likely become unbalanced due to a ton of goo slapping around in the left tire. I'll have to remove the tire again, clean it out and remount reseating the bead myself useing Dave's you-tube "explosion" method. Tried that with a trailer tire last Summer and it works pretty slick. Stay tuned!

Pat,

In seven years flying this airplane, I've never experienced issues that might be attributed to toe-in/out misalignment of the main gear. Plus I don't think the alignment would have changed simply because of new tires. I can detect no rubbing or binding on the left side that would cause the airplane to veer on roll-out. Also, it doesn't happen every time but frequently enough (and always to the left) so that I'm thinking it's a goo-induced imbalance. Anyway I'm gonna clear that stuff outta there and see what happens.

Marco, Do you think that a different tire weight would cause a veering problem? It would be my guess that something is rubbing or binding that wheel or toe in or out. Glad to hear someone was successful "with exploding" tires on to a rim. I have seen video's of it, but never tried it myself.
