Definitely not the first one like that I've seen. Good thing FletchAir has them so cheap! Also seen Landing Light switches melted like that. Courtesy of using a cheap AC rated switch for DC.

I don't think it has much if anything to do with the switch being left on, rather its due to age, corrosion, and poor quality switches. Ive seen this in a number of aircraft types.  With the low cost of replacement switches, I'd just replace them all for good measure, and while doing so, I'd re-crimp the female connectors so they make a good connection to the new switches. If you look closely, you can see corrosion on the other female terminals too.

All of the switches were replaced in 2010.

If you look at the wire and crimp on connector, you will also see discoloration. This as you know is usually caused by heat, which is usually caused by corrosion in the connection.  I think I'd look at the wire before I blamed the switch. Have you checked both ends of the wire and the ground for the beacon? What is the load draw and how does that compare to the switch rating?

This has been a long known problem in the UK with Carling switches, to the extent that an AD was issued for annual inspection of the switches and wiring.

I think in response to the UK’s  CAA’s concern about this before the AD was issued Fletchair came out with
Service kit  SK156 to change the cheap switches with MS35058-22  toggle switches.

I've only seen this on the strobe and beacon switches. The wire to the strobe through the connector next to the fuel selector also burns the connector. I've by-passed the connector with an inline connector more than once.
