Hello list,

Mine is a Kitfox S6 with Rotax 912 100HP. I want to install an electric bump, just in case. Any ideas where it should be placed?

Thanks in advance,

Francisco Icaza, Mexico City.

Sure after the Gasolator if you have one, inside the fire wall.... and as low as practical but above the Gasolator. A facet pump that delivers between about four and six psi. Even though your aircraft is a highwing with tanks basically gravity fed having electric pump is a very good idea. Put on a separate switch so you can do your run up with out using it to prove that your mechanical pump is working fine.
Good luck!

I mounted mine as close to the header tank outlet as possible.  This proved to be just aft of the bungee bulkhead as the seat pretty much takes all the room near the header tank.

Hi Francisco,

I have Series V with a 912 100HP. I mounted my facet boost pump under the passenger seat and close to the outlet of the header tank. It's easily accessible if there are any future maintenance issues. It's been trouble free since I started flying it 5 years ago. I do have a 3 way switch on the instrument panel. Down is pump on. Up is momentary on and must be held in the up position to operate the pump, and the middle is off.
Whatever you do, be sure to run a fuel flow test to ensure proper flow rates. Do this at all possible flight attitudes. If I remember correctly, AC90-89 is a good source for how to do fuel testing. Also, EAA has a video on their website explaining how to run the tests.
Hope this helps.

I have read somewhere that an electric fuel pump should be plumbed in parallel with the mechanical pump. It sounds like you all have plumbed them in series. Is that right? If that's true it makes for an easier installation.

[quote] I have a S6 firewall back with S7 firewall forward and 912ULS. After a few years of flying I decided to add a Facet electric pump. I mounted it under the center console just after the fuel valve. I do the run up with it off and switch it on for takeoff and landing only. It has worked well. I agree on the comments on thefuel flow test.

Hi Lloyd
In series is correct. The Rotax mechanical pump does not have a known failure modes where it fails blocking the passage of fuel. Make sure the same holds true for the electrical pump or else fit a one way bypass valve in parallel to it.
