Hi Fellow Commander Drivers,

For many years I have used Flitesoft software for my flight planning, they have recently gone out of business and therefore I am seeking a replacement, and would appreciate any suggestions.

Here is my situation:

No longer IFR current, and therefore only fly VFR
Fly below 18,000 MSL ...mostly 16,500 to 17,500
Fly mostly in the Southwest US (NM, AZ, TX, CA,CO,NV)
Still look at weather maps on my computer, get a personal FSS  weather briefing before flying, so the interface with weather forecasts is not important to me.

Thanks!

I use Foreflight. I have it on my IPad and find it very useful.

Kindest regards,

Bill

Moe
Foreflight is very good. Get the Stratus II-B while you are at it.

Moe,
We met years ago at a seminar for flying across the Atlantic at Sporty's in Ohio.
I had a 500S. Never made the trip but the seminar was outstanding.  I now fly a Geronimo (a highly modified Apache).
I have used the Garmin app with their antenna and an I pad mini. The antenna was about $700.00 (now it is closer to $500.00) and the deluxe app runs about $150.00 a year. That includes everything...IFR maps, VFR maps, geo referenced taxi ways and all the approach plates (also geo referenced). This is in addition to all the weather information and terrain data. It is like playing a video game. I have been very happy with it. I chose Garmin as I am flying with a 530 and a 496 and have for years so I thought it prudent to stay with Garmin.
Geo referencing places your aircraft right on whatever map or plate you are looking at.
The new Garmin antenna ($800.00) now is set up for 3-D and will also provide SynVis-3D vision. I don't have that antenna and fly in basically the flat lands of Michigan so it is more of a novelty that a necessity.
Probably more information than you wanted,
Don
