They are swivel joints that prevent cracking. The exhaust supplied by Glasair for the 180's and 200's h.p. not only cracked all the time, the design robbed the engine of 180 & 200 h.p. Lycoming engines of power. The flanges supplied by Glasair are so thin they warped causing exhaust leaks. The powder coating reduces heat up to 15 degrees. We have a man flying his GL3 up to have his exhaust redesigned. The exhaust shown will cost you less than $1,800 and nearly the cost of the one supplied by Glasair and will add extra ponies to your engine and the three inch tail pipe sounds like a 1960's muscle car.
