Dear Listers,
After my landing mishap in 2011, the replacement left fuel tank I had
built for my PP QB RV-8 has big leaks in at least four places. Slosh
would probably fix it, but everybody including Van's says "don't slosh!".
Does anyone have a lead on a Pre-Punched, preferably Quick Build LEFT
Fuel Tank for an RV-8 that is in 10/10 condition? Maybe from an RV-8
that had only right wing damage. I would like a tank that is proven
to not leak with no damage, and with a fixed fuel pickup.
I would love to get my RV-8 back in the air. The prospect of
building a new fuel tank from parts seems daunting and time consuming
right now, and prone to dealing with leaks again.

Less daunting might be to cut access holes in the back plate and seal the leaks with Proseal. Van's makes a kit with the access panel, doubler and hardware. Even one it each bay is way better than building new tanks.

Hey Matt,
Just a word of encouragement, building a new tank isn't that big of a
deal. You did such a good job building your plane, I have no doubt you
could do this easily and do a good job. The parts are all pre-punched and
it goes together fast and foolproof. Just a bunch of ribs, skin, and
Proseal. You can check out my website and see how I built two of them, and
not a leak anywhere. People make too much of this. Don't overthink it. I
have a friend in the Seattle area, Stephen Christopher, who had a bird
strike that put a big dent in one of his fuel tanks, and he built one in
short order to replace it. And he even had to paint it. You don't even
have to do that! He was back flying in about 2 weeks. Anyway, I hope this
helps!

Hey Matt, Danny Parker did what Greg is suggesting on both tanks on his RV-6. In Danny's case he did it to remove sloshing compound that was coming loose and blocking his fuel pickups but he could give you some tips. I think it would beat building a new tank. Danny has moved but his airplane is still here and he comes around pretty often.

FWIW, Some people even use the Vans Hub Cap as a patch to the hole you cut in the back of the gas tank. Even gets you a few additional ounces of fuel.
For mine, I ended up drilled out and sacrificed the back support aluminum panel and re-applying pro-seal to the entire fuel tank. In this manner, it didn’t need to be repainted and only cost me that one part.

To expand on that a bit, there's slosh, and then there's flow-able sealant.
Flamemaster CS3600 is a one-part sealant that can be used alone, or as a
topcoat over beads of regular polysulfide sealant. I've used it to
repair leaks in polysulfide-sealed tanks. The old 'slosh' coated the
entire interior of the tank, including the broad expanses of sheet metal
that almost certainly didn't get the attention and cleaning that the
faying surfaces did, meaning that adherence was often poor, and large
sheets came off to wrap around fuel pickups. When I used the 3600, I
'targeted' the areas of the leaks, and tried to restrict its coating to
just the areas that needed sealing.
I (and a *lot* of other RV owners) have seen polysulfide go soft and
seemingly revert to uncured state, but I haven't seen that problem with
the CS3600.
