Hey Gang, the FAA is asking us to submit comments on adding amphibians to
the Light Sport Aircraft Rule. This has been a long time coming, and we
desperately need support.

I realize not everyone cares about flying an amphibious Light Sport
Aircraft. But there are many that do. And many of these people are highly
experienced amphibian pilots that are getting older and their medicals are
costing them a small fortune to maintain. Plus, there are lots of others
that just want to be able to have the option should they decide to ever use
it.

Did you know you can fly an ultralight that is amphibious with zero
training? But a 10,000 hour certified pilot that has been flying amphibs
his whole life can't operate a LSA as an amphib if he opts to fly LSA's
without a medical. Something wrong with that picture. But now's our
opportunity to try and make things right with the FAA. But they need to
hear from us by 1/24!

Please read below for the details on how to submit your comment to the
proposed FAA rule change. And thanks in advance for your support!

Dan Defelici, Sport Aircraft Works
Dan Defelici joins us to talk about a Notice for Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM)
that will permit the Czech Aircraft Works to be issued a special
airworthiness certificate in the light-sport category for the Mermaid
aircraft. This is significant because the Mermaid aircraft is an amphibious
aircraft equipped with landing gear that can be retracted and extended while
in flight. This has been a problem with the Light Sport Aircraft rules
because of the language pertaining to amphibs. This NPRM has a very short
fuse since the comment period ends on January 24, 2006. This is a chance for
the sport aviation community to come together to help change the rules for
the better. Sport Aircraft Works

(And from the Czech Aircraft Works Website)

The FAA has told us they are writing a new NPRM to fix some
ambiguities and errors in the LSA rule. They plan to correct their error
with the amphibious gear issue by allowing retractable gear in amphibs as
they originally intended. This is excellent news but could take months. Chip
Erwin, the director of Czech Aircraft Works, has written a petition to the
FAA to allow LSA certification of the Mermaid now. The FAA has accepted and
puiblished this petition. They are now asking for comments.

This is your chance to be heard where it can really count. The comment
period ENDS 24 JANUARY 2006. So please send you comments in ASAP. The FAA
will make their decision shortly after the comment period ends.

The FAA likes to hear things like why this is in the public interest,
why it is important to the industry, and in the interest of safety.
Statements made with substants count the most. (Keep them short or summarize
your opinion in first few lines.)

To read the petition and to submit your comments go to
http://dms.dot.gov/submit/dspSubmission.cfm follow the instructions for
submitting comments on the electronic docket site. Or fax to 1-202-493-2251.

Refer to Docket No: FAA-2005-23030
Operating administration: FAA
Docket existence: Does Exist
Document title: Czech Aircraft Works - Exemption/Rulemaking

Thank you for your support.
