I'm removing my vacuum system because I installed a Tru Trak ADI Pilot II. After struggling with the lower left nut, I finally got the vacuum pump off. Then, I just installed a cap and gasket in its place but I'm wondering if I should also remove the adapter and the vacuum pump driven gear and then put the cap on. What is the correct way to do this?

Hi Pat,
What you did is right. If you remove the gear and adaptor you will need a double plate to keep oil pressure.

Please explain why I would need a double plate to maintain oil pressure?

Hi Pat,
I'm thinking back to when I put an inverted oil pickup on the vac pad. I
left the cast spacer on and removed the drive gear. An oil gallery for the
gear came up from the bottom. I put a 0.025" plate between the cast spacer
piece and the accessory case (to block the oil gallery), and then a 0.25"
plate on the outside tapped to accept the AN fitting. I may have given
you duff gen, if you put the blocking plate right against the acc. case and
remove the cast spacer piece altogether then you won't need two plates.
The mounting studs will be quite long though. I did this some time ago,
but I think this is the correct version!
