Over time, do RV main tires wear more on the outside or the inside treads?

Yes, they do...........on hard surface runways mine wear on the inside much more than the outside. If you do a lot of crosswind landings then that certainly enters into wear patterns (outside wear upwind). In fact, I reverse them every 100. hrs of so. I have also found that the "RV Shimmy" on my RV-6A seems to depend to a great extent on the main tire wear/unbalance. Van's kit ires must be very inexpensive tires as they tend to wear out quickly also. A friend of mine whose plane build I mentored has Michelin Aero tires with almost 300 hrs and they show little wear.(RV-Cool. Go figure? I am replacing my Van's tires next annual (Sept.06) with Goodyear Flt Custom 5.00-5 x 6 plys as I have 185.hrs on Van's and they are junk. Michelin's are good but they are French owned and unless they give em'away I won't use them. Guess I am getting old or something.
How are yours wearing???? (with 123.hrs)

Just for the record, how are your oil temps running? Mine were always high until I found the culprit..........
Luck,
Larry, RV-6A N939LT since July 2001

Thanks for the tire info. Mine are wearing the same way with 95 hours
and mostly crosswind landings.

Hey Larry,

What was the culprit of your high oil temps.
