Last month I reported a 50% loss of power on take off and that full power didn't return until on an emergency base leg in a Glasair 2S with an I.O 360 200 hp Lycoming. I mentioned the engine had new Slick mags, and new fuel and air filters. I use fine wire plugs that had been recently cleaned and gapped. The timing was set. Compression was 80/80 on all cylinders. After my engine problem I rechecked everything and installed a brand new set of fine wire plugs. But the engine still have a rough rich idle. I leaned the heck out of the idle mixture control and it helped a little. But I had difficulty setting the mixture control at altitude. Also, the EGT would jump up going into a slight decent losing only a thousand feet. And the engine would still occasionally run rich on idle. I also noticed the mixture control would stiffen up. Well, folks the problem was found. When I phoned an injector over haul facility, they asked me what kind of air filter I used. It appears an air filter manufacture has been using excessive coatings on their filters and the stuff gets into the AIR side of the servo and screws everything up with engines running way over rich. When he informed me of that a light went on and I remembered my new element having much more than usual of the coating. In the future, before installing a new element, I will press it into dry rags to soak up the excessive coating. [quote][b]
