Hi, I looking for the answer on this hassle as I have exactly the same problem, I had a Kitfox 5, with the 100 hp rotax moter, when cool it starts easily, but when hot runs fine but cant restart if I turn it off !!!!

The warm engine starts instantly when using 87 octane fuel.=C2- When I started my tour, I filled up with 100LL and=C2- the engine runs great but after flying between airports and stopping the engine, it refuses to start.=C2- I have tried everything I can think of to remedy the problem to no avail.=C2- I thought it might be a vapor lock problem so I shielded the gascolator and the fuel lines all have fire sleeve on them, no change.=C2- I put a new kit in the fuel pump and replaced the pulse line, no change.=C2- I have tried using the choke and primer but when it is hot, it will not start.=C2- I have changed plugs, still no luck.=C2- I do notice that the plugs are dry when I pull them out after trying to start and are a bit white due to the 100LL I guess.=C2- They check ok.=C2- I am using the BR8ES resistor plugs with resistor caps.=C2- I have found that if I pull a plug from each cylinder and put a few drops of gas in each cylinder and reassemble the engine and cowling, the engine will start, usually.=C2- I have tried a lot of things to try to correct this problem and so far have not been able to fix it.=C2- Any ideas out there?=C2- Harold McConnellKitfox 3 with 582 oil injected1012 hours airframe 500 engine.NE North Dakota________________________________ Message 2 _____________________________________Time: 09:53:09 AM PST USSubject: Re: Hard starting 582 using 100LLFrom: Guy Buchanan <gebuchanan(at)cox.net (gebuchanan(at)cox.net)>Tough one. I ran a 582 grey head for 500 hours running nothing but 100LL with no problems whatsoever. I did use Decalin reliably so that may have helped. The fact that it starts after a manual prime indicates no fuel, rather than flooding, but it looks like you've covered all the bases there. Since it doesn't appear to be electrical the only thing I can suggest is to get systematic about following the fuel flow: 1. Test flow rate before fuel pump. 2. Test flow rate at the carb by turning over the engine. 3. Carefully check carb bowls and bowl vents. 4. Check for carb air leaks, particularly in the sockets. (White plugs indicate lean running.) 5. Check compression. 6. Check for crankcase leaks. (Maybe seals dried out.) 7. Check for exhaust blockage.Obviously I don't think your problem is 100ll related. I'm guessing it's either tangentially related or merely coincidental based on your recent increased usage. (Of course you're going to tell me that you put 87 back in and the engine starts reliably cold and hot.
