Guys,

Two fold question here;

How accurate is your attitude indicator whilst doing aerobatic?

It seems mine doesn't like it anymore. When I start the bird it works just fine (both cockpit) and after a few loops, it looses it and never recovers. I think it is simply getting towards the end of it's life.

Anyone know where the gyro is located on an R model? The manual clearly specifies where it is on the C model, but the R has a tendency to move things a bit here and there... plus I don't remember anything underneath the rear seat.

Cheers.

Dan

Even on the R model?

In a previous life, there was a big camera there and a big hole in the floor... This is why the Hyd accumulators and brake valves were moved to the nose section. Plus I do not remember ever seeing the Gyro there when the floor was open.

Thank for the help.

The original location for the attitude gyro is above the rear floor in a
dome. If rear controls have been added it's most likely moved to rear side

Interesting!

We do have dual controls, so it has been moved...

I guess I will simply follow the cables and see where the rabbit hole leads...

Turn and bank is between front and back seat on right side under panel.  The big attitude gyro could be anywhere. It's not a sanctioned relocation

There is a gray vertical cylinder on the RH side between both cockpit, I would think that this is the gyro for the DG.

I will Open the back cockpit next time I am at the airport and look for the Attitude gyro.

It's about the size of a watermelon. It has a glass bubble site on top. U could Jack it up and level the airplane, then center the bubble. However, 35 years of Acro may be taking its toll. The "R" models didn't do much maneuvering, but they are still aging. Sometimes I walk with a 5 degree crab. I'm old.

For what its worth, i replaced mine with an MGL voyager EFIS. Took a bunch of stuff out. Works well, but also tumbles after extended aerobatics.
