F*** off spammer

Joe . . . you're getting sucked into precisely
the mind set the spammer is looking for . . . there
is a 100% chance that the source of this mischief
never looks into the communities he/she targets.

In the months leading up to xmas, someone was
spoofing my e-mail address sending spam to what
had to be thousands . . . if any of the 'targets'
believed me to be the true source of the traffic,
they never showed it to me . . . didn't get a
single unhappy 'reply'.

Matt arm wrestled the situation to ground and
all the stars are once again re-aligned in my
universe. But now we see the work-product of
a different activity. Not sure how it's getting
posted to the list . . . the 'author' doesn't
show up on the list of subscribers to any
Matronics forum. So once again, Matt has another
cyber headache to cure . . . and a bottle of
Jack probably won't get it.

The VERY BEST thing we can do is exercise the
delete key and go on about our business . . .
and just because the yearly donation season
for Matronics forums is closed doesn't mean
we can't continue to sweeten the operating
kitty for Matt's endeavors.

Fly comfortably my friend . . .

Bob . . .

The very…VERY…BEST thing in addition to the delete key is to exercise the “report as spam” key and the blueberry gets squashed locally in your computer…and then the wonders of Norton or your favorite anti-spam software will report Mr. Blueberry to the collective and then other local computers will automatically step on the blueberry. Then of course the process repeats…
..

Cheers!!!

I have had my email account hacked twice some years ago. Since then, I don't know if happened again or not. Not being computer savvy or techno competent, I pondered what to do to protect my email and address book from a nefarious hacker. Password changes were not a satisfactory solution. I was hacked 2 days after a change. I considered leaving my address book blank and typing the address for every email I sent. That quickly became a royal PIA.. So what could a nontechy do? I have added an extra integer-letter or number- to every address in my address book. Should I be hacked again and I'm confident I must have been, the hacker will only get a list of addresses that are useless. I know this because I occasionally forget to remove the extra integer or integers when I send a message and it bounces back with "this address does not exist". It has been many years since I last was embarrassed by seeing my email used by a hacker. It is a small inconvenience to remove the added integers before sending a message, but it's a low tech solution that has worked for me. Now I hope I have not jinxed myself by making it public. jrh
