and less expensive, and lighter, and no carburetors
seems a little ambitious? and what does the propeller say..

Neat.....

I guess the obvious question is one of longevity and shrink-fit crankshaft capacity?

The 915iS looks great though....if it isn't priced out of this world.

Actually, in the video it is explained that the crankshaft is welded
together with a special tool...
They strike me as a competent outfit. Still, 154hp seems a little over
the top.
915iS is probably too heavy for the Europa.

I understand that the UK EuroFox agents are working with Rotax to develop a variant of the 912 ULS that will deliver a constant 120hp. Last time I heard they were up to 115hp but still had some more things to try. I believe that this involves modifying the standard 912 ULS with new parts and revised engine mapping. Their motivation for this is to give the EuroFox tug a bit more grunt but I imagine it would work very well in a Europa too. They plan to have a demonstrator flying by July this year.

Regards,

Phil

Phil,

Just curious:

How do you do "engine mapping" in a 912uls which has carburetors, not fuel injection, and no electronic ignition, but rather a fixed wheel providing timing?

Ira,
Tongue in cheek..... I can only assume that there has been a break through in automotive technology that we are not aware of for this. ☺

Seriously though, it was an  nice presentation and it reminds me of Jason Parker's work 10 years back. It did occur to me that there probably isn't a propeller available for a Rotax in this HP range.
Also, I couldn't help thinking about the possibility of stress fractures in the crankshaft if they are welding the press fit to prevent twisting.

Ira,

You spotted my deliberate mistake Wink

It's a development of the standard 912 iS.
