I appear to have a very small leak from the radiator on my 912S. There is some evidence of coolant coloured water around the base of the rad and on the lower cowling. I have only had to top it up by about ½ inch of coolant into the overflow bottle in 12 months. I am wondering if Radweld or similar would sort it out or should I bite the bullet and replace the radiator?

I believe that someone used Radweld for just such a tiny leak and that it worked just fine, but of course it's very unlikely to be an approved remedy for aircraft.

I had a small leak on mine a while back, starboard side about 1" up just where the horizonatal tube meets the column. Changed the radiator.
You are sure its not the port pipe to rad joint though leaking a bit after flight? the presure builds up there when the pump stops.

Graeme,
Before buying a new radiator get it checked out by your local radiator shop. They pressurise them to find leaks. They also can fix them easily. My one turned out not to be a leak from the radiator but from the pipe joining the radiator. Can be very deceptive where it is coming from! Only needed tightening the clip.
Cheers,
TIM

I had mine welded by a professional machine shop - no further problems.

Thanks for the reply Graeme. The leak does appear to be from the vicinity of the port pipe to rad joint. I checked the jubilee clips and that one was was not especially tight. Tightened it up and will see what happens after the next flight.

Ritchard
It's a good reason to replace the jubilee clips for the constant pressure spring
clamps,
they expand and contract with heat without cutting into the hose, and it goes
without saying the silicone hoses are preferable to the rubber ones so definitely worth replacing if you haven't already done so,
