Hello Stephen, The builders manual for the KIS TR-1 calls for the fuselage
main spar box hat shaped bushings (KS-19) to be solidly bonded into place in
the spar box with flox/micro slurry.

Similarly, the wing main spar tubular bushings (KS-1Cool are to be solidly
bonded into place in the wing forward (main) spar with flox/micro slurry.

See pages ASSY-2 and ASSY-3 of the builders manual.

If these bushings are turning when you turn the the AN8-46 bolts that hold
the forward wing spar into the fuselage spar box then your wing is not
securely fastened to the fuselage.

Hi Mark & O C
I reinstalled the wing today and after torquing the two front mains spar
bolts. I lifted the wing out at the end on the right side a little and heard
a clicking. After examining the right side main spar bolt. I noticed the
whole bolt turns in the spar Is this normal or do I have a major
problem???

To our success, Stephen McIntosh

Steve, If the bolt is turning in the bushings you may be bottoming out on
the threads and need some washers.

I never found anywhere in the instructions on how much to torque the nuts to
for the main spar bolts.
If it was all built correctly, the idea was that the hat shaped washers
(which are bonded into the spar box ) would be a perfect fit against the
spacers running through (and bonded) the wing spars. The bolts are
essentially just holding it all in place and loaded in shear ) . They have
a nylock insert on the nuts anyway to stop them from sliding out .
In my installation I have a washer at the both the bolt head and the nut
sides to complete the installation, resulting in 1.5 threads showing on the
threads when it is assembled. So far in 16 years they have remained tight,
and i have no movement when the wings are lifted at the outboard ends
I would as Ed suggests, investigate if the nut is bottoming out , How many
threads are showing ?
It would still be unusual to have any movement of these bolts in any
direction , even if they are bottoming out

Keith

I believe I need to add a few more washers. I have 4 threads showing. Must be bottoming out.
