Well I've run out of my supply regular light bulbs for my panel landing gear lights.

I want to replace them with LEDs. Any one out there have the numbers or suppliers for them?

It'll take me a month of Sundays, to research them.  And I'm an old man. Wink

SuperBright LEDs, but their site is a little weird... it's hard to link directly to a bulb.

Here's the green one:

https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/panel-indicator-lights/ba9s-led-bulb-4-led-ba9s-retrofit-lan/2538/55/
BA9s LED Bulb - 4 LED - BA9s Retrofit | Indicator | Super Bright LEDs
www.superbrightleds.com
LED BA9s bulbs are commonly used in numerous industrial applications such as indicator lights and control panels. This BA9s single-contact LED bulb replaces a variety of traditional bulbs including 1445 and 17053 bulbs. It has 4 LEDs that are positioned on the top of the bulb and emit a narrow 32° or wide 90° viewing angle. Produces up to 13 lumens at 3200K or 6500K. 9-mm Miniature bayonet base for easy plug-and-play installation—just twist to lock in place. The energy-efficient bulb has 6, 12 and 28V AC/DC operation as well as 120V AC operation and is designed to last 30,000 hours—25 times longer than incandescents. Available in cool white, warm white, blue, green, amber and red. Not sold in pairs. Price per bulb. All products are instock and available to ship from Super Bright LEDs.

You will have to click which color and 28V and 32 degree angle, then "add to cart" then change the color and "add to cart" etc. Otherwise it's pretty simple.

BA9S-G4-32-28VAC: Green 32 Degree 28V $1.98
BA9S-R4-32-28VAC: Red 32 Degree 28V $1.98

And here's the one for the landing gear and tail light:

https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/bayonet-bulbs/1142-led-bulb-15-led-forward-firing-cluster-ba15d-retrofit-rvb/2394/1689/
1142 LED Bulb - 15 LED Forward Firing Cluster - BA15D Retrofit - 90 Lumens | BA15 Bayonet Base Bulbs | Marine LED Replacement Bulbs | LED Boat Lights and Marine LED Lights | Super Bright LEDs
www.superbrightleds.com
LED replacement bulbs can fit numerous boat and RV applications such as navigation lights, cabin lights, dome lights, tail lights, brake lights, reverse lights, turn signals or side marker lights. This 1142 dual-contact bulb has 15 LEDs (3-mm and 5-mm)—9 positioned on the top of the bulb and 6 radially mounted on the housing. LEDs create a 210° viewing angle and reduce hot spots. Produces up to 60 lumens at 4500K. BA15D 15-mm bayonet base for easy plug-and-play installation—just twist to lock in place. The small, energy-efficient bulb has 12V or 24V DC operation and is designed to last 10,000 hours on your motorhome or boat—8 times longer than incandescents. Available in natural white, amber, red, blue and green. Not sold in pairs. Price per bulb. All products are instock and available to ship from Super Bright LEDs.

Hi Guys,

Being that I am an Engineer and therefore always looking to fix a problem whilst still retaining the biggest amount of cash, I have found these...

Hi Chris,

You may want to check that any LEDs you use are AC/DC capable, as ordinary LEDs are intolerant of all but the smallest of negative voltages.

The AC capability adds a parallel ordinary diode, placed in opposition, that helps protect the LED from the nasty transient spikes (usually negative) found on YAK power rails arising from all the unsuppressed relays & solenoids used in the aircraft.

Now while your battery, if it's in good condition, also helps absorb these transients it should not be relied on to be your only source of protection.

I started using some ordinary LEDs in my -52 10 years ago and they progressively died over the next couple of years, the AC capable replacements are still going strong.

BTW - suggest you source matching colour LEDs if possible, the white ones tend to wash out the plastic dome colours.

YMMV

Yes and no:
Company: Superbrite, different size, operationally the same.

Panel lights for CJ6: B9As; (9mm) Yak 52 (etc?) B7As (7mm)

Work fine at 28VDC. All ind. lamps in my CJ are B9As for about 6 years.
No replacements yet.

Hi Gil;

Replaced the entire landing light installation with a Par 36 adjustable
fixture (Piper surplus which I just had laying around the shop) and a
Teledyne Alphabeam Par 36 LED ldg. light from AC Spruce.

Whelen also make a similar Par 36 type unit (and many others). Price
slightly less than Teledyne and I think they have a similarly sized unit
with mounting provision that does not require the std. Par 36 mount.

Here's a short DIY video I posted of replacing the CJ landing lights with LEDs.
