Thanks Guys,
I'm sure Dennis is right and it's time for me to rebuild the firewall check valves. I also have Doug's stainless steel nipples for the Emergency air valve handles but DANG those are hard to dissasemble! Doug said he has to take them out and put em in a vice! So Byron, when you get off your lazy ass and fix your system let me know what you did so I can get off my lazy ass and do it.
Cheers

Ok Gang, need to plumb the knowledge banks to track and fix a Nanchang air
leak. Both main and emergency tanks leak down to 21 ATMs overnight with air
valves closed. All pressures pump up and fill normally after start. No
audible air leaks noted, first problem in 20 years of ownership. New
Emergency tank was installed last month during annual...(note: old
emergency tank would leak out completely overnight). Firewall check valves
were replaced about 6 years ago, Doug Sapp stainless air valve put into
main air valve maybe 5 years. Where to start?

In my lame defense, Skip, my hands and mind are just about healed after the torture of removing our failed compressor, replacing the sheared coupler, and reinstalling the f-ing thing.

So, while I know the firewall check valves are fine because I overhauled them in the hope that it would solve the slow leak from emergency tank, the thought of removing the emergency shut-off valve, it’s gauge and associated air lines triggers a convulsive reaction in my gut....and I start to cry. You see, Skip, it’s not laziness that’s at play here, it’s cowardice.

Sly,Yes I use a vice but also have a fixture to prevent the vice from crushing the diverter valve casing.  If you crush it it's toast!
For check valves a vice is used just to steady the bottom end so that the body can be unscrewed.
If you have the time send me your valves and I will overhaul them for you, or send them as cores and I'll send you new valves which have been upgraded with SS springs and leak checked to 1,000 psi.  Or come on up to the Sapp-san Intergalactic Space Port and I'll show you how to get the job done.
