Most of you will know that the club is celebrating 2018 as the 25th anniversary of the Europa (the 1st production model flew in 1993). We are planning to arrange special events in the UK, France, Holland Scandinavia and the US. We have just confirmed that the UK event will consist of a Fly in, BBQ, AGM and Dinner at Turweston Airfield, EGBT on 23 June 2018, so we ask all those who might fly in to this to put the date in their diaries. We will plan to circulate full details to all members by the end of February, together with details of the events in other countries.
Regards, David Joyce, GXSDJ for The Europa Club

Europa Fly-In: Petit Jean State Park, AR (KMPJ), May 18, 19, 20, 2018

This summer’s first Europa Club North America Fly In and Europa 25th Anniversary Celebration will be held at Petit Jean State Park in central Arkansas, May 18-20. Please save the date!

Petit Jean is a reasonable distance to fly from states in the southeast and south-central US. We’ve purposely chosen this date to avoid the crowds after school is out for the summer and to take advantage of cool Spring temperatures.

The park offers a number of hiking trails of various difficulty and length, featuring waterfalls and overlooks. There is a lake for kayaking and fishing, and a swimming pool. Camping is available at the airport including shower facilities. The park has camping, cabins and lodge rooms (you can even rent a yurt!). The website for the park is: http://www.petitjeanstatepark.com/. Airport info is at http://www.airnav.com/airport/KMPJ

There are a number of backcountry airstrips nearby that would be great fly outs including Gaston’s (3M0), Trigger Gap (17A – which may not be listed, but is 3 miles south of 4M1) and Byrds (51AR). There is a good article about this area in the January 2018 AOPA Pilot magazine.

Whether you’re flying or driving, it’s a great opportunity to gather with other Europa owners / builders / enthusiasts. Hope you can join us!

May 18-20 Petit Jean State Park 25th Anniversary Celebration

Activities / Schedule:
Friday afternoon / Saturday morning
• Arrivals, welcome – Petit Jean Park airport (MPJ)
Saturday Options
• Explore Petit Jean State Park
• Visit Automobile Museum
• Europa Conversation / Share Experiences
Sunday
• Departures
• Option to fly to Gaston’s (3M0) for Sunday Brunch which is served from 10 – 2

Accommodations:
• Cedar Falls Motel, 1627 Petit Jean Mountain Rd, Morrilton, AR 72110 (501) 727-5636. The Cedar Falls Motel is small (14 rooms), and you can cancel with no penalty up to two days in advance, so please make your reservations soon. Mention Europa when you call Shirley.
• Camping is also available at the airport, and possibly at the State Park.

Transportation: We will rent a vehicle for transportation between the airport, motel, museum and park.

Meals:
• The Mather Lodge in the State Park is the closest restaurant and is open daily from 7 am – 8 pm. Since we will have ground transportation, we can also pick up food or go to a restaurant in Morrilton. These options should cover Friday dinner, Saturday breakfast and lunch.
• Saturday night we’re planning to host dinner at the motel. Petit Jean Meats is a local smokehouse with great reviews. We’ll have their Smoked Ham complete dinner (with cornbread dressing, sweet potato casserole & pecan cobbler) and pick up some salads to go with it.
• Sunday morning we’ll have a light breakfast for everyone at the motel. Petit Jean Meats is reported to make an amazing cinnamon coffeecake, so we’ll have that with coffee and juice.

For planning Saturday dinner and transportation, we’d appreciate a headcount (either reply to this thread or email butcher43(at)att.net).

The event will be held regardless of weather (we’ll drive from Michigan if we have to). Please join us to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the First Flight of a production Europa.

Jim & Heather

We just want to update everyone concerning this weekend.

We are planning to fly down on Thursday. We will stop in Russellville, AR and rent a car. Heather will drive it to Petit Jean and Jim will fly in. We’ve chosen Russellville since it is on the way to Gaston’s and the airport is not on the river so morning fog should not be a problem as it could in Conroy.

We will have our cell, 269-599-0122 and supposedly will have coverage there. We will also bring our handheld and will monitor 122.9. And will have our iPad so we can be contacted by email.

We’ll keep an ear out for airplanes Friday and attempt to meet you when you arrive. Plan to park on the north end of the airstrip. There are a few tie downs but you might want to bring your own.

If you need to cancel, please give Shirley as much notice as possible.

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Jim & Heather
