Seems to me attaching cables to the gear legs defeats the purpose of  rod or tubular spring landing gear legs.

 

Spring gear and large low pressure tires take a lot of load off the airframe experienced during hard landings.

Cables are a safety for a hard landing at worst they would lessen a bad landing

And prevent a gear collapse.
